Numerical Portrait of James Thornton
This poster is a collection of the numbers that make up my faceless, autonomous paper-trail-identity that exists in the bureaucracy of our modern world.
To create a poster that embodied these ideas, I wanted to use the same sort of visual language that a credit card or bank card would have. A credit card has numbers pressed into the back of it by a machine. In my poster I chose to burnish these numbers by hand rather than with a machine as a comment on the human toil that goes on behind our rather anonymous existence. The fact that the numbers are depressed in rather than embossed suggests a kind of cattle-branding.
