National Endowment for the Arts

This identity was developed for a theoretical rebranding of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The logo design emphasizes the reciprocal nature of arts funding in America. The idea being that as the arts are supported and allowed to flourish, culture is enhanced and the arts continue to evolve and shape our society in many different ways.

The typeface Akkurat was used to for it’s approachable, inviting curves and tails that work well with the form of the mark.

The visual language and treatment of imagery for posters and for the NEA website makes use of a blank field or canvas, where the imagery is almost painted on in this grid, broken up with colored squares as an abstraction of the variety of media, cultures etc. that the arts make use of and engage with.
